RFS Monaro Team Support Group

With the implementation of the new public warning system on 1 October 2009, the Monaro Team is putting together a number of support groups to assist fire control when we have a major incident.

We are looking to establish the following Groups:

1. Public Liaison Unit

The Public Liaison Unit will consist of individuals who will undertake the following duties:

  1. Answer 1800 information line.
  2. Use a computer to gain updates on the fire from head office in Sydney and also from the fire control centre itself.
  3. Tasked into the field to communities at risk to be a point of contact.

There will be a Team Leader assigned who will look after accurate flow of information  (example: giving members scripts that are up-to-date so they are giving the most accurate information to the caller)

2. Communications Group

Communications Group will consist of individuals who will come into the control centre and undertake the following duties:

  1. Liaison between fire control and fire ground by radio or telephone.
  2. Maintaining both radio and telephone logs.
  3. Maintaining the distribution board or T cards.
  4. Tasked onto the fire ground to assist group officers if required.

There will be a Team Leader who will be responsible for the accurate flow of information.

3. Transport Group

The Transport Group will assist fire control by delivering supplies, meals, equipment from fire control to the fire ground.   They may be tasked to drive fire fighters from their accommodation to the fire ground.

4. Welfare Group

The Welfare Group will be required to setup at a staging area and prepare meals for fire fighters going on and leaving the fire ground.  They may also be required to prepare meals for the IMT. With this position you must have your Food Safety Handler certificate.

In the past we have had numerous calls from volunteers that want to help, but who don’t necessarily want to get on the back of a truck.  This is a great opportunity for those of you who fit into that category.  (Training will be provided)
