Description

Village Firefighter (VF) is an internal RFS mainstream program for members to carry out small structural, vehicle and similar ”village” firefighting activities under direct supervision. It is designed to enable suitable members to work within a supervised team of firefighters using relevant equipment and communications to control village type fires safely and effectively.

Entry Requirements

Before commencing training or assessment in VF, a member must:

  1. Be able to understand and speak the English language sufficiently well to work in a team as a Village Firefighter (VF).
  2. If they are over 40, or have any significant illness, injury or disability; discuss with their doctor whether it is safe and appropriate to take on the demanding role of a village firefighter, and advise the RFS if any limitations need to be placed on their activities as a member.
  3. Have Bush Firefighter (BF) certification or equivalent, unless participating in a combined BF/VF training program.

The following unit of competency is aligned with this program:

The following units are also aligned with the VF program, but (apart from some VF specific aspects) are usually covered in a prior or integrated BF program.

Both of the competencies (above) are covered in the BF program or a combined BF/VF program.

Note: The RFS VF program also covers some types of situations not referred to specifically in PUAFIR202A Respond to Isolated/Remote Structure Fire (e.g. vehicle fires)

Pre-requisites & Co-requisites

The pre-requisite for PUAFIR202B Respond to Isolated/Remote Structure Fire is PUAFIR201B Prevent Injury. The co-requisite for PUAFIR202B Respond to Isolated/Remote Structure Fire is PUATEA001B Work in a Team. These prerequisite and co-requisite requirements are taken into account in the structure of the VF or BF/VF program.

7.00pm to 9.30pm on Thursday evening 19th August

8.00am to 4.00pm on the weekend as follows:

  • Saturday 21st August (we will allow time for you to vote)
  • Sunday 22nd August (we may be meeting out at a remote location for practical exercises)

Description

Cooma Fire Control Centre and Emergency Operations Centre serves as a base for the Monaro Team RFS operations with other Fire Control Centres in Bombala and Berridale. The facility is set up for use as an operations centre for a wide range of emergency management tasks not limited to firefighting.

The training room is used by many community groups and emergency service organisations. Access to the training room can be made through the Monaro RFS reception or via a side entry and hallway that leads directly into the training room.

Cooma SES occupies the engine bay and offices on the northern end of the complex and the Cooma Brigade uses the engine bays that are adjacent to the Fire Control Centre to the south.
